Christian Living and Inspirational
In Rumors of Another World
, Philip Yancey investigates the natural world and discovers the supernatural hiding in plain view. He grapples with why God made the world and what our role truly is, and seeks to answer the question, "How do I live in the natural world while expressing the values of the supernatural?" He writes, "I have come to understand faith as the highest form of integrated encounter. Faith puts together, assembles, re-orders, accepting the entire world as God's handiwork. We live among clues, like rescuers shifting through pieces of stained glass shattered by a bomb, and only with a blueprint or some memory of original design can we begin to connect the shards, to assemble them into a pattern that makes sense of our world." Yancey invites you to join him on a journey of discovery. He will challenge you to tune into "rumors of another world," and connect the seen with the unseen. He promises that the grace-filled result will be a life of beauty, purpose, freedom, and faith.

In this thought provoking book, Gordon Fee deals primarily with the presence of the Holy Spirit in the individual life of the believer and in the church. He has redefined the terms of the discussion of the Holy Spirit in a fresh and passionate way, and gives us invitation to read the words of Paul in the New Testament anew. He examines the presence of the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament and shows how God dwelt amongst His people and how the presence departed and was renewed again, and shows us how to experience the presence of God in our lives.
Scholars have long acknowledged that prophetic expressions were central to ancient Mediterranean religions, including Judaism. In this intriguing study spanning the time of Christ through the first three centuries of the Christian era, Witherington examines the cross-cultural nature of prophecy, showing how Judaism—and ultimately the prophetic role of Jesus—was influenced by other traditions. 460 pages, hardcover from Hendrickson, 1999.

Spirit and Power
is a fresh, scholarly, and definitive look at what Pentecostals believe and why. Whether you are a Pentecostal or a non-Pentecostal, this book will help you get a thorough understanding of Pentecostal perspectives and their scriptural foundations.
In the past there have been those who live their spiritual lives by biblical explanation only. At the same time others have based their theological dispositions on "signs and wonders" characterized by the Pentecostal/Charismatic movement. Popular teachers Cain and Kendall believe that God is on the brink of releasing an era of unprecidented glory as the people of God "marry" together both the Word and the Spirit.

The recent dramatic growth in the Pentecostal and charismatic movements revitalized the ancient debate over cessationism—the doctrine that manifestations of miraculous spiritual gifts have ceased. This work by Regent University professor Jon Ruthven provides a thorough and detailed assessment of the cessation controversy, examining the historical, philosophical and biblical contexts to provide an irenic interpretive framework grounded in scriptural intent. The book also includes an exhaustive bibliography which will serve as an invaluable scholarly resource for those working in this area.
Early Pentecostals proclaimed the restoration of the charismatic gifts as a sign of the imminent coming of Christ. This eschatology was later marginalized by the rise of fundamentalist dispensationalism. Today Pentecostal eschatology is being revised to include a more transformative view of the kingdom.
This book proposes a further revision of Pentecostal eschatology created to recover prophetic elements of early Pentecostalism that invite a responsible social engagement in the world, and to overcome fundamentalist assumptions which have crept into Pentecostal theology in its middle years. To this end, the eschatological thought of selected Pentecostal theologians is placed in dialogue with Jurgen Moltmann. This dialogue critiques fundamentalist tendencies within contemporary Pentecostalism by advocating a theology more open to history and creation, and a Pentecostal ethic both personal and social in scope. Continuum, 2003.
Perhaps the biggest news story in two thousand years is now building: A worldwide, apocalyptic clash of spiritual forces in a fight to the death. The focus of this conflict is the tiny state of Israel, whose re-emergence its traditional land has sparked unrelenting rage and attack. Repeated votes in the United Nations reveal an enduring hostility among the nations of the world toward Israel - even to the point of denying her right to exist. News media and political analysts have overlooked an important factor in this growing global animosity toward Israel. That factor is a single ancient prophecy that not only predicts this universal conflict, but also powerfully shapes its precipitating events and attitudes, and does it on both sides of the conflict! Amazingly, this prophecy by Ezekiel (chapters 38 and 39) is currently the subject of numerous best-selling books, both in the English-speaking and Muslim worlds! THE PROPHECY THAT IS SHAPING HISTORY represents a breakthrough in research and scholarship. This new and serious study of the subject clearly traces the origins and the ultimate destinies of the major nations who will clash in the most horrific battle the world has ever seen. Xulon Press.
Now you can have all three books of this landmark study in charismatic theology in one unabridged volume! Written in a warm, personal style, this scripturally sound resource gives you a comprehensive perspective on Renewal Theology. You'll gain insight into a variety of topics including redemption, salvation, the church, and the kingdom—and better understand how God works in your own life. 1500 pages, hardcover from Zondervan.
The Pentecostal movement has had an incredible impact on the shape of worldwide Christianity in the past century. Estimates are that Pentecostals and charismatics make up approximately one-fourth of Christians worldwide, and the numbers are only expected to grow. With these developments comes the need for thoughtful Christians of all persuasion to better understand Pentecostal theology. In fact, Amos Yong believes that Pentecostal theology can be a great gift to the church at large. Yong presents a thoroughly Pentecostal theology of salvation, the church, the nature of God, and creation. He also provides a fascinating survey of the state of worldwide Pentecostalism, examining how Pentecostal theology is influencing Christian churches in other countries. Baker, 2005.

Mission: sharing the story of Jesus
How does the gospel relate to a pluralist society? What is the Christian message in a society marked by religious pluralism, ethnic diversity, and cultural relativism? Should Christians encountering today's pluralist society concentrate on evangelism or on dialogue? How does the prevailing climate of opinion affect, perhaps infect, Christians' faith? These kinds of questions are addressed in this book by Lesslie Newbigin. A highly respected Christian leader and ecumenical figure, Newbigin provides a brilliant analysis of contemporary (secular, humanist, pluralist) culture and suggests how christians can more confidently affirm their faith in such a context.
